Lasith Malinga shows Arjun Tendulkar, other bowlers, boss at MI practice ahead of RCB match

Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the 2024 Indian Premier League last week when they defeated Delhi Capitals by 29 runs. The team had endured a difficult start to the season and faced three consecutive defeats under new captain Hardik Pandya. And MI's win seems to have brought new enthusiasm to the camp.

Earlier this week, MI shared a moment of the team's practice in a video that showed a drill for the bowlers. In the video, Lasith Malinga was seen asking his bowlers, which included Arjun Tendulkar, to hit the stumps. However, no one managed to hit the only stump at the other end; then Malinga took up the challenge himself.

Despite being retired from professional cricket for over three years, Malinga displayed unwavering accuracy as he hit the target effortlessly, showing that his skills remain sharp even at the age of 40.

Malinga was all smiles as he hit the target; The Sri Lankan bowler was known for his ferocious yorkers that often crashed the stumps during his playing days and made his name in the Indian Premier League in the same way throughout his time with Mumbai Indians. The former right-arm pacer is one of the few single-franchise players in the IPL, having represented MI throughout his league career.

In nine seasons, Malinga catapulted his name into the wicket-taking charts as one of the best bowlers in the tournament, taking 170 wickets in 122 matches. He is MI's highest run-scorer and was also the league's top run-scorer when he retired in 2021. Since then, six bowlers have surpassed him, with Yuzvendra Chahal leading the way with 195 wickets in 149 matches.

MI take on struggling RCB

While Mumbai Indians' journey in the IPL 2024 season has been challenging, marked by just one win from their first four matches, their recent win against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium marks a possible turning point. The team will now face the struggling Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have just one win from five matches so far.
