'Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals': Former India star disagrees with Brian Lara on live TV ahead of RR vs GT match
Legendary West Indian cricketer Brian Lara and former Indian Ambatai Rayudu were at North Pole and South Pole ahead of Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans IPL 2024 match in Jaipur. Lara, the former coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, put his weight firmly behind the Royals, stating that the Sanju Samson-led team has got "everything covered". But Rayudu had a different opinion. The former MI and CSK star said GT will beat RR on Wednesday.
"Rajasthan Royals are definitely outstanding and my favorite for me. They have everything. They are playing good cricket and are unbeaten in the tournament so far. I don't see Gujarat Titans doing that tomorrow," Lara said on Star Sports Cricket. To live.
RR have had a dream start to this IPL. They are the only unbeaten team in this tournament and sit at the top of the points table with four bounce wins. But Jaiswal, who has been brilliant for the national team of late, has managed just 39 runs in four games.
If he returns to the runs it will be icing on the cake for RR as his opening partner Jos Buttler returned to form with an unbeaten century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Sanju Samson has led RR from the front, scoring 178 runs from four matches, including two fifties.
Riyan Parag has also been in top form scoring 185 runs including two unbeaten fifties.
However, Rayudu felt that Gujarat Titans had the goods to stop RR's dream run in the 17th edition of the league.
"Gujarat Titans are a great team and so far they have done really well. I don't think anything will change in their team or mentality with these few losses. I am sure they will come back well and cleanly by the law of averages I think Gujarat Titans will beat Rajasthan Royals ", he said on the same program.
GT have seen a mixed campaign so far with two wins and three losses from five games.
The Shubman Gill-led side would look to avoid a hat-trick of defeats on Wednesday, but that would be easier said than done against rampant opposition. They would like to bounce back after their 'bad' bat against Lucknow Super Giants.
Gill has personally played with the bat so far, scoring 183 runs from five matches with a strike rate close to 147.
His opening partner B Sai Sudharsan has also been among the runs but is yet to register a fifty in the tournament. He replaced Wriddhima Saha at the top in the previous one and is expected to bat alongside Gill on Wednesday as well.
Veterans Mohit Sharma and Umesh Yadav have been standout performers for GT, but they fell to little-known Punjab Kings cricketers Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma in a thrilling tie. The Afghan trio of Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad also need to raise their game.
