Jonty Rhodes savagely criticizes 'get a life' response to fan asking for LSG shirt: "Rude. I didn't expect this..."
Being a cricket fan in India isn't easy, but when you're an illustrious figure in an IPL franchise, it's even tougher. Jonty Rhodes, the former South African great, found that out the hard way when his message to X rubbed the public the wrong way. Rhodes ended up in hot soup after writing an unexpected reply to Lucknow Super Giants fans while chasing a signed jersey. After asking for it for 10 days in a row, LSG pitching coach Rhodes broke his silence, but not in the way fans expected.
"Brother, get a life. Thanks for the support, we appreciate it. But wow, come on..." Rhodes responded to the fan's message.
The original post by the fan has now been deleted, though he did chime in to cause quite a stir over Rhodes' response. Although many came in support of the field giant, it comprised a very limited part. Rhodes' response was tagged as "disgraceful", "unknown", and many other tags and users would condemn his response.
The fan himself continued to post a reply explaining his position. As Rhodes' response became public, fans were flooded with questions about the details.
Fan explains his point of view
"Just did this as a fan. A lot of people do it. I didn't expect this kind of response. I asked for a signed shirt from LSG for 10 days straight. I just asked for it as a fan; there was no need to be this rude man. If you don't want to give, don't, I won't die for it. And try to learn how to talk to the fans and if you can't, at least don't insult! I never expected that kind of language from you @JontyRhodes8," she wrote in several posts.
"He could have responded normally. I was tweeting as a fan and I didn't abuse or spread hate anywhere. If I can't tweet that my favorite team is responding to me, and the coach of the team knows they are cheering, then I've lost all respect for him. I'm not cheering for LSG anymore. "
On Tuesday, LSG shared a clip of players training with Rhodes present. The video captures Jonty giving Yash Thakur a tip or two. Jonty used the "dance moves" technique, which requires the body to move in different directions as the fielder waits to catch the ball. After presenting it himself, Thakur picked up the nuances and performed quite well.
